FRIDAY 1 JULY till SUNDAY 3 JULY 11am - 5pm each day – University of Essex, Elmer Approach LIZZY LE QUESNE – Moving and writing, the artist makes direct engagement between body and space, bringing inner sensation and awareness of body into dialogue with outer environment, and transforming the glass of a window into the threshold between private and public worlds. SATURDAY 2 JULY 10am -4pm – Pier Hill MADELAINE MURPHY’s Dovecote is made from architectural and nautical salvage and celebrates the cultural wealth of Essex. The public are asked to contribute to the artwork to complete its intention. Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. 10am -3pm - Railway Hotel Pub Mud and Guts - Sound / Film installation documenting the artist's explorations of Southend's subterranean. Have a play and take control of the pause button! 11am onwards - Tomassi Anna Lukala will be at Tomassi's on Sat 02/07/11, from 11am continuing her Artside project. Come down and participate. You won't leave empty handed! (If you're quick, that is!) 12-4pm – The Royals LIFE IS ELSEWHERE events: Artists run a Salon in the Royals discussing the theme of Pause with public and inviting local artists to come and join them + OLIVIA NOTARO sets up and repaints the background of an old portrait to feature the indoor 'landscape' in front of her + At the turn of each hour between 12-4pm – OLIVER GUY-WATKINS performs When the God Speak, a two-minute snowstorm - at top of the Pier Hill + 12-1pm BETH FOX & KONSTANTY CZART will engage the public in discussions about the René Julien sculpture outside Southend Victoria train station 12-5pm – Southend High Street KATE MURDOCH's sign Stop Look Listen will be seen carried around Southend town centre and the seafront 2-5pm – Southend High Street STEVE ROSENTHAL's unusual market research questions our relationship with the ethos of market research and the weight of 'personal opinion'. Hear out for: 'Free Seaside Views, Free Seaside Views'! FRIDAY 8 JULY – Utopia throughout the day KESHET BUCKLE will be in and drawing live with the resulting works going up within few days... make sure you come back and see if you are there! SATURDAY 9 JULY 10-5pm – ARTSIDE MARKET on Elmer Approach Six market stalls are taken over by Artside artists – you will NOT find any fruit & veg here! 10am -3pm - Railway Hotel Pub Mud and Guts - Sound / Film installation documenting the artist's explorations of Southend's subterranean. Have a play and take control of the pause button! 10-4pm – Outside Victoria Shopping Centre FOOTPRINTS THEATE COMPANY – performance Talk to Me – A live, larger-than-life, interactive telephone. 1pm – Moving performance – from Victoria Circus down Southend High Street SUE WILLIS – Connecting both ends of Artside, the artist will undertake a journey that represents a very personal response to Southend and its High Street. From 2pm – Four venues including New Look and Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe AMELIA BEAVIS-HARRISON – SUCK IT! – This artwork contains e-numbers / DIY performances where a pause becomes a wait, and a suck becomes an endurance. Performance + installation of floor stickers in all four locations, where they’ll be from 9-16 July for a DIY follow-up action. 7-8 & 8-9pm – Park Inn Palace hotel room – Performance and sound installation Places are limited & have to be reserved on our website (click on ‘Book’) or by calling 07970 791 959. On the day of the event you will receive a txt message / email with the room number. ALEX BARRETT – a ‘bedtime story’ event at 7pm and 8pm – The Somnambulist’s doppelgänger is the poltergeist, and the price for a good night’s sleep here is your life. DISINFORMATION – Rorschach Audio – a ghost voice soundtrack based on a research project studying the psychoacoustics of allegedly supernatural phenomena, played before and after the ‘bedtime story’. 2-5pm – University of Essex, Elmer Approach ARTSIDE CINEMA – a pop-up cinema with all Artside films shown in a loop, including Dustin Grella's animation (made from messages you leave for him on 001 212-683-2490 from 2-8 July), a new short film made in Southend by Gillian McIver & Catia Ott, films by Sally Mumby-Croft, Life is Elsewhere group, and Stephanie Wuertz. Have a play and take control of the pause button! 2-2.20pm – The Pier HOLLY BODMER – I am here and you are not! – a spoken performance about writing postcards 2-5pm – University of Essex, Elmer Approach ARTSIDE CINEMA – a pop-up cinema with all Artside films – see above TUESDAY 12 JULY – FRIDAY 15 JULY Dusk 'till dawn– Video projection of all Artside films on the windows of Southend Radio station SATURDAY 16 JULY 10am -3pm - Railway Hotel Pub Mud and Guts - Sound / Film installation documenting the artist's explorations of Southend's subterranean. Have a play and take control of the pause button! 8pm – The Railway Hotel in the garden (upstairs if it rains) Julia Barclay – poetry performance out of found text and images collected in Southend. + Join us for last-day-of-Artside drinks! |
